The latest accomplishment in the Walter household is that Mark and I completed a half marathon (that's 13.1 miles) this past Sunday! What's even more amazing is that a year ago neither of us were really "runners," but Mark decided he wanted to try it and so I did too.
Our goal was to finish in 2 1/2 hours - which is just about 11:30 minutes per mile. We kept up well using a "run-walk" method... where you run for 3 minutes and walk for 1. The idea is to use different muscles so your running muscles don't get fatigued as quickly. It actually worked really well, and we were able to finish just a few minutes after our goal. Official time was 2:33:46 for Mark and 2:34:06 for me, but we did start a couple of minutes after "official" time.
Unfortunately the kiddos didn't make it to the finish line to celebrate with us ... Andrew started running a fever on Saturday and didn't sleep well that night, so they slept in while Mark & I braved the elements! (Andrew is still sick, and now Amanda has it too... yay for me!)
We are quite proud of ourselves for acheiving such an accomplishment, and are quite sore (me more than Mark!) We are looking forward to another on in May, and maybe some shorter runs over the summer.
Thanks for all who supported, prayed, babysat, and encouraged us along the way!

WAY to go. I'm very proud of you and Mark. Maybe someday I will try it.
